In order to assist and support members of the UL Lafayette family, the University is accepting applications for special leave from leave eligible employees* who were significantly affected by the historic flooding. Special leave maintains employees on the payroll with full benefits with no reduction of the employee’s annual, sick or compensatory leave balances.

In accordance with Civil Service Rule 11.23 (d) and (g) and Executive Order JBE 16-48, special leave may be granted for a classified or unclassified employee if it is determined that:

  1. an act of God prevents the employee from performing his/her duty or
  2. because of local conditions it is impracticable for the employees in such locality to work.

Special leave has been automatically granted for all employees unable to work from August 12 to August 15, 2016.  Any employee requesting additional special leave should complete the Special Leave Request Form and submit it to their immediate supervisor.  The request should then be forwarded to Human Resources for review and submission for approval.

Employees will be notified of the approval or denial of their request by Human Resources.  Employees may be asked to provide additional information before their request can be processed.

*Employees who were absent from work to assist family members, co-workers, or neighbors affected by the flood may also submit a request for special leave.
