FIFTY YEARS AGO, Congress passed Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX), proclaiming that, with a few specific exceptions: “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.

In honor of the 50th Anniversary of Title IX, the University’s Associate Vice President of Finance and Administration and Title IX Officer, Paul Thomas, spoke at Louisiana’s Title IX 50th Anniversary Symposium on Tuesday, June 7th, 2022 hosted by the Louisiana Board of Regents. Mr. Thomas spoke to the attendees on the importance of continuing the conversations on sex and gender equity.

Title IX is a comprehensive federal law that prohibits sex discrimination in education programs (ALL aspects of a school’s educational programs) that receive federal funds.
