Paid Holidays

Paid Holidays may include: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Mardi Gras, Good Friday, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Acadian Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve.

Insurance Plans

The University offers  Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Flexible Spending Accounts, Long Term Disability, Short Term Disability, and Supplemental Cancer Coverage to eligible employees. 
Effective date of coverage.  Eligible new hire benefit coverage is effective on the first day of the month following 30 days of employment.

Medical The University offers six employer sponsored health plans, where the University pays 75% of the premiums.  If eligible, new employees must enroll within 30 days of their hire date.
Vision and Dental Insurance These  voluntary incentive plans offer coverages for four types of dental services (preventative, basic, major and orthodontic services) with a freedom of choice of dentist and coverage for eye exams with dilation (as needed), contact lens fit and follow-up, frames, standard plastic lenses, lens options, and contact lenses (material only). Entire premium is paid by the employee.
Life Insurance Benefit amount is based on employee’s annual salary to a maximum of $50,000.00. There are also provisions for benefits for employees’ dependents, and an additional provision for accidental death and dismemberment coverage for employees. The University pays for half of the life insurance premiums covered for employees and retirees.
Health Care Flexible Spending Account The Health Care Flexible Spending Account allows participants to set aside pretax dollars for qualifying medical and/or dependent care expenses.
Dependent Care Account The Dependent Care Account allows you to pay for your dependent daycare expenses, like babysitting and daycare fees, with before-tax dollars.
Disability Short Term Disability Benefits: After a 14-day elimination period, benefits are paid at 60% of the employee’s pre-disability weekly earnings to a maximum weekly benefit of $1,500.00. Benefits continue for as long as you are disabled up to a maximum of 11 weeks disability.

Long Term Disability Benefits: After a three-month qualifying disability period, benefits are paid at 60% of the employee’s basic monthly salary to a maximum monthly benefit of $10,000.00.
Supplemental Cancer Insurance This insurance can help ease the financial burden often brought on by this disease, bridging the gap between group health insurance plans and the high cost of medical and non-medical treatment.

Retirement Plans

The University provides the following Retirement Plans:

Faculty and Unclassified Staff: Teachers’ Retirement System of Louisiana (TRSL) or
Optional Retirement Plan (ORP)
TRSL is a defined benefit plan; employees contribute 8% of annual salary.
ORP is a defined contribution plan which is an alternative to TRSL’s defined benefit plan; employee contributes 8% and employer contributes 6.2%.
Classified Civil Service: 
Louisiana State Employees Retirement System (LASERS)
Employees contribute 8% of annual salary.
Tax-Deferred Annuity Plans: Voluntary plans which allow you to save and invest extra money for retirement, tax deferred.

UL Federal Credit Union. The University of Louisiana at Lafayette employees and students have access to financial services from their very own Credit Union. The Credit Union offers a variety of options to meet your financial needs including: Checking Accounts, Savings Accounts, Student Checking, Budget Friendly Loans, Mortgages, and Credit Cards. Employees are also offered low-rate personal, vehicle, MasterCard® credit card, and home loans

Employee Discounts. University employees can receive discounts from a variety of vendors throughout our local community.

Tuition Exemption. Employees of the University of Louisiana System and their dependents can enroll at any of the institutions within the system for undergraduate instruction at a reduced tuition, plus certain applicable fees. Employees may also enroll in graduate level courses at a reduced tuition, plus applicable fees.

Employee Health and Wellness

  •  Health Screenings. Annually, the University partners with Catapult Heath to conduct on-site health screenings on employees who register. Once the screening is completed, participating employees receive a $10 discount applied to their following plan year premiums.

    If you are not able to attend a Catapult Health Preventive Checkup this year, you may receive the premium discount by having your Primary Care Provider report lab and biometric values via the Primary Care Provider Form.
     
  • Wellness Wednesday. Every Wednesday students, faculty and staff can participate in a free health screening clinic. The clinic promotes healthy behaviors and lifestyles among the University community, while allowing nursing students to share their health care knowledge.
     
  • Flu Shots. the University offers flu shots once a year, at no cost to its employees.

Fitness and Recreation Center. University employees have access to Bourgeois Hall recreational facilities, which include: an 8-lane, 25-yard lap pool, leisure pool, large spa, newly constructed fitness center, and a variety of sport courts (tennis, racquetball, & basketball).
